Sarah's Gluten Free Chicken Layer Feed

My dear friend Sarah has been helping me on this Chicken journey! We recently started mixing our own Layer Feed. It's so incredibly easy. And, just like we know eating whole foods as humans is better, its better for our animals too!
This is where we started...
We buy most of the food through a Co-Op Food share called Azure Standard (Affiliate Link).
We also buy some other items from CAL Ranch or Tractor Supply depending on price and availability.
Check out the ingredients for Sarah's Gluten Free Chicken Layer Feed:
Size | Item (parts) | Price | Animal | Store
25lbs | Peas (1.5 parts) | $28 | Chicken | Azure Standard
45lbs | Whole Barley (1.5 parts) | $24 | Chicken | Azure Standard
25lbs | Milo Sorghum (2 parts) | $25 | Chicken | Azure Standard
40 lbs | Sunflower Seeds (2parts) | $24 | Chicken | Tractor Supply
30 lbs | $15 | Chicken |
Azure Standard
|
You can also add to their feed and buy as needed:
60lbs | Nutribalancer | $109 | Chicken | Azure Standard |
|
50lbs | Oyster Shells | $12 | Chicken | Tractor Supply |
Once you have all of your bulk items, use the sam container to measure the Peas, Corn, Milo, Sunflower Seeds & Oats.
It is easiest to mix in small batches and use as needed. Or mix in small batches and then store in larger containers.
We mix bulk items in buckets like this, then mix with our hands. Filling the buckets full with a batch makes it just heavy enough to cary to containers as needed, but not too heavy.
We also feed the chickens scraps of left over from meals such as veggies and fruits. You can give them beans and other scraps as well.
